Biography

Karin Dahlberg, soprano

"Den Zuhörern stockte der Atem. Unvergessen bleibt vor allem das letzte Lied:"Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen“, ein Abgesang auf das "Weltgetümmel" und die Wendung zur Liebe und zur Musik."
Westfahlenpost September 2014, Mahler Rückert-Lieder

Karin Dahlberg (formerly Roman) is a Swedish soprano who time and again overwhelms her audience performing works ranging from baroque to contemporary music. She is hailed for her scenic charisma, sense of style and a wonderful timbre throughout her vocal range. Ever since her 2004 debut, performing Mozart’s Mass in c-minor with the Gothenburg Symphony, she has appeared with a great number of Swedish and international orchestras. She has worked with conductors such as Alessandro de Marchi, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Andrew Parrott, Paul McCreesh, Andreas Hanson and Stefan Parkman.

Karin Dahlberg is often hired for inaugural performances of newly written music, most recently in Sven-David Sandström’s large-scale St. Matthew Passion in Berliner Philharmonie (Deutschlandradio Kultur). Karin has been reinvited to the Berliner Philharmonie with Konzerthausorchester Berlin for the upcoming 2015-2016 season.

Karin Dahlberg sings on Anne Sofie von Otter’s album “Bach” (Deutsche Grammophon), which was nominated for the Grammy Awards 2010 in the Best Classical Vocal Performance category and won the Danish Radio 2 Grammy. A new Bach album with Karin Dahlberg as soprano soloist was released in December 2013: Bach Mass in B Minor in a Swedish recording with Lunds Vokalensemble, and in the near future we can expect the album release of Baroque Mad Songs (BIS-Records) in collaboration with the highly acclaimed Camerata Nordica.

Karin Dahlberg made her international concert debut at the Bachakademie Stuttgart in 2005 and her opera debut on the international opera scene Tiroler Landestheater, at the Innsbrucker Festwochen in 2008. Drammaturgia.it: ”Only one true opera sound was present here...capable of genuinely dramatic contributions in the role of the Mother; a mama more sensual than her own daughter.” Karin Dahlberg is a recurring and much appreciated guest soloist in opera and operetta concerts in repertoire including Mozart, Puccini and Lehár.

A dedicated romance singer, Karin primarily works with the pianist Bernt Wilhelmsson. Together they have built a repertoire of great scope in style as well as vocal range, and have performed in Sweden as well as internationally, receiving greatly praising reviews. Her vocal versatility enables her to also move freely within the genres of musical and jazz, and she has worked with grandstand bands performing both jazz standard works and Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concert. Her solo repertoire includes many of the major oratorios and masses: Bach’s Matthäus-Passion; Handel’s Messiah; Haydn’s Die Jahreszeiten; Mozart’s Mass in C Minor; Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem; Verdis Messa da Requiem; Poulenc’s Stabat Mater and Sven-David Sandström’s Messiah to name but a few.

In the last few seasons, Karin has had enormous success in Germany with works such as Verdi’s Requiem and Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder. In Sweden she has been seen and heard in Stockholm Concert Hall in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in collaboration with Eric Ericson Chamber Choir, and at Malmö Concert Hall in an Offenbach festival as well as a concert of Nordic music by Nielsen and Nystroem.
